We currently run 25 HGVs on a variety of tasks - bulk tippers, bulk tankers and cement mixers. In early July we were approached by Kevin McCauley with a view to trialling the Magno-flo product on some of our vehicles. As Kevin offered a free six week trial we decided to give the product a try with a view to purchase if we saw the improvements that had been quoted. Our vehicles are running at maximum gross weight on 80% of loaded journeys and we decided to try it on four vehicles on differing tasks and specifications to see if we saw an overall improvement. The mpg has risen on all four vehicles on trial, also noted by drivers was an increase in torque which lead to the lorries running smoother. The Scania R480 and the Volvo have automatic transmissions and these seem to work better as a result of the increased torque. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cemex Generator Trial
West Calder Plant
2 x 500 KVA and 1 x 100KVA generators, on trial with the Cemex quarry company, made fuel savings between £140 - £180 per week giving a payback time of 5.5 weeks. This, coupled with a large drop in their emissions, makes this small outlay a very viable purchase. The 500KVA generators, Perkins Navistar, are fitted with Magno-truck units and the smaller 100KVA, Iveco, generator is fitted with the car/van unit.

As a Company Leggat Plant and Bridgend Hire introduced the magnoflow system to our fleet 6 months ago and instantly noticed differences on both the performance of our fleet which consists of Mobile Cranes, Heavy Haulage, Operated Wheeled and Tracked Plant and Roadsweepers. In addition we also noticed an immediate decrease in fuel consumption. The difference was such that the board decided to endorse the magnoflow product and have now become a distributor from our site at Barrhead. John Brown from Magno-Flo ltd approached me to ask if I would mind being one of the first to try his fuel conditioning unit for the truck market. As it was a free trial, I felt I had nothing to lose. On the first day after fitting, the driver reported an increase in the torque on the hills with the engine running quieter. Within one week the vehicle was showing a 10% fuel saving. John Brown then fitted a second vehicle with identical results. With the savings being made, this prompted me to have all of my vehicles fitted, including my Ford Ranger pick up, showing an 18% fuel improvement with better torque and a quieter running engine. In my mind every truck, van and car should be fitted with a Magno-Flo fuel conditioning unit, the benefits are there to be seen. Once fitted no maintenance required and can be taken off and fitted on your next vehicle. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

We have in the past been approached by many others with various devices and methods of saving fuel most of which we didn't even get to the stage of testing them. As you know we have 22 LGV vehicles in our fleet doing various types of work. Our fleet consists of Scanias and Ivecos. The vehicle I decided to test your devices on were as follows:- Scania 8 wheeler, Iveco 8 wheeler and Iveco 14 tonner. The results were as follows:- Scania 8 wheeler averaging 14000 miles over 2 months saving of £367 over the period, Iveco 8 wheeler averaging 1,000 miles over the 2 months saving of £370 over the period and Iveco 14 tonner averaging 6,500 over the 2 months saving of £97 over the period. |
